GAS PRICES PRECIPITATE CHANGES IN BEHAVIOR

Auto Futures Group and TechnoMetrica Market Intelligence just completed a joint study on the effects of rising gasoline prices.  Key findings are:

  1. Consumers are changing their behavior and attitudes in response to the rising gasoline prices.

  2. Consumers expect that prices will continue to increase.

  3. At higher gas prices, consumers would consider purchasing non-automotive brands, if they offered better fuel economy than traditional automotive brands.

  4. The purchase intention for SUVs and mid/full-sized cars also decreases rapidly at higher gas prices.
